SUSSEX XC CHAMPS, Bexhill, 3rd January

bexhill xc 001Well done to the 6 HRs who took part in one of the toughest races on the local cross country circuit, the county championships at Bexhill Down. As is usual for this event, the conditions were appalling – wet, windy and the going was very heavy indeed.  Despite the multitude of photographers encamped in the woods, hoping for a repeat of Kim Callow’s flying triple salco last year, Kim managed to stay upright for the entire race although he did nearly lose a leg when finding a “sinkhole” near the finish! There were many quality athletes on view with Phoenix’s Jon Pepper taking the men’s title for the 4th successive year in 39.33; whilst Hastings AC’s Grace Baker won the ladies title for the 2nd year in a row in 26.11. Results were:
MENS RACE (7.50 miles): Mark Goodman 53.00 (61st); David Bratby 62.11 (93rd); Kim Callow 73.51 (101st) …103 ran
LADIES RACE (4.00 miles); Riz Maslen 32.30 (39th); Suzi Frost 39.01 (63rd); Sarah Marzaioli 41.32 (69th) … 74 ran
