Well done to our two club representatives Riz Maslen and Suzi Frost, who both acquitted themselves well in the Sussex Masters Cross Country championships at Lancing. The ladies race was a tough two lap affair over 4 miles, featuring a steep hill up to the Downs on each lap. Riz finished an excellent 4th in the F45 category, coming in just 33secs behind the bronze medal winner; and was 14th overall in the 74 strong field consisting of F35s, F45s and F55s. Suzi finished a creditable 65th, and will now be investing in some proper cross country shoes!
Riz: “It was a very hard course with a steep hill on each lap, and a real test for the legs. Thankfully the rain held off, but it was still very muddy underfoot. I felt that I paced the race pretty well, and had enough left at the end to put in a good sprint finish (those track sessions definitely pay off!). Thanks to Suzi for driving and being a great support in our two woman team!”
Suzi: “That was a really tough run although I enjoyed it. It was very slippery in places, and there were lots of tree roots lying in wait as well …. thankfully I didn’t emulate Kim’s triple salco at Bexhill Down though!”
