Club C’ship: Heathfield Midsummer 10k (25-06-2017) – Race Info

This is another challenging but very scenic country lane route starting from Heathfield & Waldron Rugby Club at Cross in Hand, Heathfield (TN21 0QZ). The first 5kms are mainly flat and downhill, apart from one short climb in the first km. However the second half of the race is a different matter entirely, with several sharp climbs and a steady uphill finish for most of the final 2kms.

This Sussex Grand Prix races starts at 10.00am; and online entries (£10.00 for club runners) are currently available at http://heathfieldroadrunners.com/race.php. Entries are usually available on the day at a cost of £12.00, but please note that there is an entry limit of 300 runners for this race and 283 took part in 2016. There are limited changing and shower facilities at the Rugby Club, and parking is also at a premium – so worth getting there reasonably early.

This weekend is invariably blessed with good weather, and current forecast is 18C and very sunny! The vast majority of runners suffer badly in hot weather, so you need to be well hydrated beforehand and pace yourself sensibly. Only 25 runners broke 40mins for this race last year; and the leading HR and indeed first lady finisher was Jenna French in a time of 43.09.

Please note that to be eligible to score championship points, you need to be a paid up HR club member and also need to wear an HR top. The use of headphones is not permitted in this event, as the roads are not traffic free.

To recap: there are 3 separate club championships – first past the post; age graded; target times.

At the end of the year your points for your 8 best races are added together to give your total points score in each category.

For the target times championship only; you must complete at least 3 of the 7 – 8 club races. In addition you can obtain 200 bonus points in this category by marshalling at one of the club races. If you choose not to marshal a race, then you have no chance of winning! As there are a limited number of marshals required for each race, then it pays to marshal early on in the calendar year as you may find later in the year that all the marshalling slots are already taken!
